Matt Charlan grew up in Central Florida. He attended Washington University in St. Louis where he studied Art and Architectural Design. In 2006 he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Architecture with concentrations in Urban Studies and Political Science, his thesis project exploring architectural and economic solutions for Post-Katrina New Orleans. Concurrently, Matt earned a second Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration with focuses in International Business and Marketing.

After graduation he worked for a small architectural firm in St. Louis. In 2007, Matt started a guerilla marketing agency called D.I.A. Studios which used urban art as a method to support redevelopment of some of St. Louis’s challenged neighborhoods. In 2009, Matt seized an opportunity to move to Boston to continue his pursuits of architecture and marketing. There he worked on several architectural projects, as well as commissioned paintings.

Matt has been with Charlan Brock Architects approaching 10 years. In addition to his duties as Partner, he is a project designer and Director of Marketing. He is an advocate for healthy, resilient, and inclusive place-making, and he embraces his personal mission:
