Martinique on the Gulf

Martinique on the Gulf Resort & Hotel

On a deep, narrow site along the Gulf of Mexico, the goal was to create a resort community that celebrates the beauty of dune and wetland habitats, while recalling the festive feeling of a Caribbean village. Seasonal residences range across several market segments. 2 and 3-story gulf-front condos adopt the tall columns and hipped tile roofs of plantation houses. A half-circle of 2-story perched cottages defines a grassy crescent, which serves as a dry retention basin for parking lot run-off. A meandering road stretching back from the shore links clusters of fancifully detailed bungalows and duplexes interspersed with wetlands that are linked to an adjacent wildlife refuge. The Caribbean theme is carried throughout in the beach club, gazebos, bridges and signage.
