Cheval Urban Apartment

As land values escalated, the client who had previously built more straight forward garden apartments took on a demanding challenge. The client chose a 10.6 acre site that was an old coffee mill and had a geological fault line running through it. The mill was replaced by a 387 unit urban apartment development. Given the number of units, many were oriented inward on inviting courtyards. With the overall size of the apartment building, the many extensive corridors were treated as internal pedestrian streets with intersections designed to promote socializing. A motor court, just inside the entry arches, establishes a distinctive first impression and helped with arrival orientation.
